Entering the Language of the Holy Qurʾān

Through the Gateway of the Classical Arabic Tradition

Part of the Ramadan Arabic Programme (£49 full course)

Why This Session Matters

Many students attempt to learn Arabic through scattered grammar rules.

In the classical scholarly tradition, however, Arabic was entered through a structured sequence of sciences.

Because the study of syntax (naḥw) depends upon morphology (ṣarf), students first approached the science through the Muqaddimah transmitted with Mīzān al-Ṣarf — a conceptual introduction establishing the foundations of Arabic.

What You Will Learn in the Free Session

In this opening session we explore how Arabic was historically approached within the late-classical madrasa curriculum.

Topics include:

• The formation of Arabic as a formal science
• The early development of the language disciplines
• The Baṣran and Kūfan schools of grammar
• The ordering of Arabic study within the Farangī Maḥall curriculum
• The role of Mīzān al-Ṣarf as the gateway to morphology

By the end of the session, Arabic is no longer seen as a language to memorise, but as a structured science entered through clearly defined gateways.
